In an unexpected move, OPPO has released another smartphone in the budget segment. It belongs to the A series of the brand and is the OPPO A17. To no one's surprise, every aspect of this phone seems to perfectly match the previously leaked renders and alleged specifications. Let's see.
As suspected, the follow-up to last year's OPPO A16 has a faux leather finish and slim frame. Apart from the front, the A17 looks like an all-around premium phone. Featuring a combination of flat metallic trim and rounded corners, it features two soft pastel colors, Lake Blue and Midnight Black.
Compared to the design, the hardware specs on the A17 seem rather grim. The water notch on the front melts beautifully into the 6.56-inch IPS screen. The network has HD+ resolution, color accuracy rated at 100% DCI-P3, and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. Despite the premium design, the black edges around the screen remain rough.
The power of OPPO's new 4G model comes from the Helio G35 SoC – an octa-core chip based on a 12nm node and a maximum speed of 2.3 GHz. The whole package is charged by a 5000mAh battery under the hood. Thanks to its 10-watt charging capability, the A17 offers a super power-saving mode and a Super Night-time Standby function for longer battery life.
The A17 runs on Android 12 ColorOS 12.1 UI out of the box. There are two separate camera mounts on the back; one has a 50MP primary sensor, while the other has a flash and a 2MP secondary lens. Currently, the OPPO A17 is only sold in Malaysia at a price of almost $130 or ~ PKR 31,000. For this competitive price, it brings IPX4 water resistance, 64 GB of memory and 4 GB of RAM.
